Beauty Blogger’s Favourite: Real Techniques
I have been following beauty bloggers and youtube stars for years now and there have always been some products which caused a huge hype among them. Starting as an insiders‘ tip, slowly getting more and more popular and finally being raved about by every beauty blogger/vlogger out there. I’m talking the Urban Decay Naked palettes, Shu Uemura eyelash curler, Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge and – the Real Techniques brushes. If you’re a true beauty junkie (like I am) you may already know them. No, scratch that, then you definitely know them! For the rest of you who are new to this world: Brace yourself for a wave of rapture….
Designed with makeup gurus Sam and Nic Chapman (known from their famous youtube channel Pixiwoo), the Real Techniques brushes are by now a staple in almost every beauty junkie’s makeup bag. Yep, including mine. (; They provide high quality, perfect results and what’s best: they are affordable! But one step at a time.
The bristles are synthetic and very soft which makes applying foundation and co. a true pleasure. Furthermore they have a color-coded system, gold for base, purple for eyes and pink for finishing touches. Each brush has its name written on the handle, which comes in very handy if you’re a newbie to the beauty world. What I also really like is the fact that the sets come with a brush case, this is perfect for traveling.
Now, are these brushes worth their hype? YES they are! For the past few years I used low priced drugstore brushes, simply because I I couldn’t afford those pricey MAC/Bobbi Brown brushes and also wasn’t willing to invest 100 bucks and more into a starter set. So I used the cheap ones from the drugstore and didn’t really bother. But after scrolling through more and more blogs, reading three books of Bobbi Brown and stepping further into the world of beauty and blogging I became curious if brushes really can make such a difference. Was this after all the secret to applying makeup?
With Christmas ’13 around the corner I wrote a small wishlist and -surpriiiseeeee- the Real Techniques were on it. But I wanted to buy them myself, so I waited and bought them from my own money a couple of days after Santa came and since them I have fallen helplessly in love. ♥ Their quality is amazing and they definitely live up to their promises. They make application so easy and I’ve come to realize that brushes absolutely make a difference, a big one actually. The results look more natural, different formulas can easily be blended and applied and even the cleaning process is no problem since the residues of foundation and co. come off quickly with warm water and baby shampoo.
I bought the core collection which consists of four brushes: the detailer brush for precise application of concealer/lipstick, the pointed foundation brush for liquid foundation, the buffing brush which is actually designed for mineral foundation and powder, but I use it for blending BB cream/liquid foundation into my skin and the contour brush for applying highlighter.
I use the detailer brush mostly for concealing blemishes, but also to blend excess concealer under my eyes and around my mouth. Since using the buffing brush and being sooo happy with it, the pointed foundation brush isn’t used very often actually. It is pretty small, smaller than I expected and I’m good with the buffing brush. The countour brush is really nice and perfect for applying powder highlighter on the highest points of your cheeks.
The case is solid and ensures a safe journey for your brushes. (:
So if you want great results but don’t want to spend all your hard earned cash on three expensive brushes I would definitely recommend the Real Techniques. They’re affordable, super soft and provide an excellent finish. I bought mine on amazon for 25€, but you can also get them on miacosa . What about you? Have you tried these brushes? Tell me in the comments!
